A Trek to the Stars!

Robyn’s immortality, invented as a side-effect of this art style’s inability to show age, is one of my favorite things in the comic.  I don’t bring it up that often (largely because it’s just so strange), but it’s fun to play for laughs every now and then.

I’d like to thank everyone that dropped in on Sporkman this week, and everyone that helped spread the word of its new regular schedule.  It’s heartening to me that other people may actually like this comic as much as I do.  See ya Monday!

So are all the Flints immortal or just Robyn? If the former, will Sophie ever reach adulthood or remain a teenager for ever? Yes, I realise that assumes that the immortality only kicked in when the strip started, but hey, anthropomorphised plastic eating utensil, so anything is possible.

As noted in one of her first strips, Robyn herself specifically found the fountain of youth, and subsequently uses the water from it in her cream rinse. Whether her children use that water as well is debatable, as they have a hard time believing all of their mother’s tall tales. Of course, if she found that water before they were born, it’s possible that some of it was passed on genetically. It’s something I’ve given thought to, but have never really settled on. Though to answer your question, no, Sophie isn’t a teenager forever. In one of the early 2012 strips, I intentionally drew her as an adult in the future, though it’s hard to tell since she’s so short anyway.

In any event, I’m pretty sure that 24th Century Sophie is actually a sentient computer now.

I would’ve linked it in the main post, but I know it’ll inevitably change when that strip gets revisited.

Thanks John, I had read that strip but had forgotten about it. In practical terms, the Flints are as immortal as you want them to be.

As a side note, after re-reading the first panel, I like how Sporky’s first thought about the “future” is “tomorrow.” I know it’s not exactly a new gag, but it just fits him so well and makes him all the more lovable a character.
