These first panel captions are throwbacks to when the strips were running on Keenspot's newspaper page... except that these strips NEVER ran on Keenspot's newspaper page. This basically makes the captions redundant (in webcomics, you don't need to explain what's going on in every serial strip), but they actually work to service jokes sometimes, so it's all good.
