Clowning Around!

Date: October 28, 2004

Label: Deleted

Chapter: One Shot Wonders

Characters: Amanda, Evil Clown, Sporkman

This is the first example, chronologically, of what I call "Deleted Sporkman." Which is to say, before I remastered it in 2012, this particular comic never existed in any finished form. At the time (in this case, October 2004), I decided that this strip wasn't up to snuff and never bothered to finish it up. I believe, in this case, that I was being overly sensitive about what I could and couldn't put on Keenspot's newspaper page. For some reason, I thought that drawing Drunk Sporkman would somehow make the comic less "family friendly" and thus violate the newspaper's content guidelines. This was, of course, a bit silly, but I was (okay, I am) pretty weird.

Now, while most of the strips you'll find in the archive as "Deleted Sporkman" were almost completed originally (which is to say, they were penciled or even inked before I trashed them back in the day), this strip - and the one that follows it - existed only as a script and some very loose, almost non-existent thumbnails sketches. For this restoration, using the partial thumbnails as a guide, I had to draw entirely new art in 2012, attempting to replicate, as best as I could, my art style circa-2004. With that in mind, I think it actually turned out pretty well.

Note that the date?I've?posted this comic under?isn't?strictly accurate: the thumbnail script I salvaged this strip from was undated, though it was noted as being "One-Shot 3," which would chronologically place it here in the archive.

Remastered on August 18th, 2012.

About The Comic

Classic Sporkman is a comic by Jodie Troutman, beginning in 2004 as a throwaway reboot of the titular character she created in high school. It's extremely silly, frequently stupid, and the comic's creator absolutely loves it. She hopes you do too. For more comics by Jodie, visit longtalljodie.com!
